Anurag Kashyap, the renowned Indian filmmaker, is set to make a comeback at the 76th Cannes Film Festival with his latest movie “Kennedy”. The film has been selected to be a part of the Midnight Screenings section, and it is the only Indian film to have made it to the official line-up for the festival. The event is scheduled to take place from May 16 to May 27, 2023, and will see the presence of some of the most distinguished names in the film industry.
Starring Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt, and Abhilash Thapliyal, “Kennedy” has been shrouded in mystery, with details about the plot being kept under wraps. Anurag Kashyap is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival, and he has previously showcased his films at the prestigious event. In 2012, his iconic film “Gangs of Wasseypur” was screened at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight section, which is an independent section of the festival. In 2013, “Ugly” was screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section, and it received a standing ovation. “Raman Raghav 2.0” premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Director’s Fortnight section, while “Bombay Talkies”, an anthology film in which Anurag Kashyap served as one of the directors, premiered under the Special Screenings section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
The announcement of “Kennedy” being selected for the Midnight Screenings section has been met with enthusiasm by Indian filmmakers and fans alike. The Cannes Film Festival 2023 will feature new films from Martin Scorsese, Wim Wenders, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Todd Haynes, and Hirokazu Kore-eda. Ruben Östlund, the Swedish filmmaker who won last year’s Palme d’Or with “Triangle of Sadness”, will preside over the Main Competition jury. The festival will open with Maïwenn’s historical drama “Jeanne du Barry”, starring Johnny Depp as Louis XV.
Anurag Kashyap’s last film was “Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat”, a romantic musical that starred Alaya F and Karan Mehta. The film released on February 3, 2023.
