Nang Lucky Gogoi of Sivasagar (Assam) is serving the society in social and educational work. She has been selected for two national and one international award to be conferred this December.
Nang Lucky Gogoi had always dreamt of a better society where everyone can have a good education, free health care services, and at least two-time meals a day. For this very reason, she founded an NGO – Silver Line Education and Development Society, in the year 2012. It has been almost a decade that Gogoi is constantly in service of the people. In due recognition of her contribution to society, the Govt. of Assam appointed her as the Vice-Chairperson of State Anti Drug and Prohibition Council in 2019. This has boosted her morale to work with double enthusiasm for society.
Nang Lucky Gogoi is a Masters Degree holder in Public Administration and is presently pursuing one more Masters degree in Sociology through distance mode from Krishna Kanta Handqui State Open University, Guwahati. However, she graduated in the science stream from Gauhati University. In order to understand the people and thus serve society in a better way, she has chosen these subjects for her further studies.
Gogoi’s youthful energy and alertness have given her an additional advantage in her agenda to be at people’s service all the time. Lately, her hard work and dedication got recognised by one of the four royal Satras (cradle of Vashnavite culture) in Assam – Shri Shri Dakhinpaat Satra, Jorhat. She got felicitated by the Satra Committee, who conferred the prestigious ‘Matribhumi Samaj Pran Award 2020’ for her exemplary service during the tough times of the CORONA pandemic. This has further inspired her to devote herself as a Corona Warrior, providing possible assistance to needy people. There was a massive crisis of Hand Sanitiser in the market. Keeping this in mind, the Govt of Assam ordered the liquor manufacturing companies to provide hand sanitiser under CSR activity. Nang Lucky Gogoi voluntarily took responsibility for distributing the hand sanitisers among the common people. She engaged representatives from various students unions and NGOs in the state, and even herself travelled extensively amidst the threat of CORONA pandemic to make hand sanitisers available among the frontline warriors. Not only hand sanitisers, but she also distributed reusable khadi face masks made by her NGO team for free. She felt that lactating mothers and pregnant women were not getting nutritious food due to the lockdown. This made her distribute pulses and fruits to such women. This type of distribution took place at many places in Assam. The exact number of such beneficiaries is not being counted by her, though she remembers that more than 300 such women were benefitted in the Sivasagar district of Assam.
As a result of her extraordinary services, she got selected for the ‘Indo-Bangla International Friendship Award 2021’ by the World Book of Star Records, which will be held at Digha, West Bengal, on 18-19 December 2021. Interestingly, she got the letter of confirmation on Dec 6, the day which India and Bangladesh have decided to celebrate as Maitri Diwas. That is the same day on which India formally recognised Bangladesh.
Apart from this award, she has been chosen for ‘Gandhi Shanti Doot Samman 2021’ by Human Rights and Social Justice. It will be awarded to her on ‘World Human Rights Day this year, i.e., on Dec 10 at Patna, Bihar.
Moreover, she will be conferred with the prestigious ‘Indian Icon Award 2021’ by the National Human Rights Organization at New Delhi on Dec 27, 2021.
Nang Lucky Gogoi is getting congratulated from all around for these rare achievements. She has always expressed her desire to be at people’s service. She has expressed her gratitude to the juries and organisers of the award Committees who have considered to felicitate and thus encouraging her for what she loves to do – Social Work.
