A line from Susmita’s first novel goes, “Life can’t always be a bed of roses; it has thorns too,” which is indeed true as Life does not go as we expect it to be. Things don’t turn out how we’d hope, expect or plan. But, balance is the key as you keep moving because giving up is not an option. In a candid conversation with Susmita Gupta, Author of ‘To Love that knows no bounds, ‘Was it Love or Lust?’ and ‘Unforgettable HE.’
You have been a romantic story writer. What prompted you to write about LIFE in your upcoming novel?
Susmita – (She smiles) Love and Romance add purpose and meaning to life, and it is essential to love and be loved as a friend/ partner/ daughter/ sister, and my concept comes with a slight change. Love and Romance do not always depict sitting next to each other while holding hands. Its deep meaning in literature and life is way more enticing when you become a pillar of strength for others, be it your friend, life partner, family, etc as and when needed because Life and its circumstances are uncertain. The one who understands, acknowledges, empathizes with you, and remains by your side unconditionally in every thick and thin, seems to be more romantic for me. This prompted me that why not pen down a story revolving around this concept?
Everyone knows you worship your work, i.e., your writing. When did your thoughts trigger you to take it to a professional level?
Susmita – My failure list is more extensive than my achievements, and I never regret anything in life. I feel respect is above everything because we do not give any authority to anyone to hurt our self-esteem and self-respect. So when I felt that water was rising above its level, I called it a quit and tied a knot to become my own boss. You can say, I like to take challenges, especially when a person forcefully tries to prove to you that you are ‘incompetent’. And this marked the beginning of my entrepreneurship journey with Ed Innova, to take writing on a different level. Though it is challenging, I have embraced every challenge, and above everything, my family stands by me, and they are like, ‘you forge ahead, we are there for you. Grateful forever!
There’s an emotional touch in every story you write. Is there any specific reason? No doubt you are too emotional.
Susmita – I am a pampered child and youngest in my family. I lost my father untimely when I was just 12. He was closest to me, and it left a void in my heart that can never be filled. I have seen life from the nearest and accepted that this is life and we have to go with it. Hence I embraced the change with a smiling face, of course.
How is Susmita in her personal and professional life? I mean as a friend, daughter and a boss.
Susmita – I am very open-minded and friendly as a friend, sister and daughter. Still, I never pretend to be a boss with my stakeholders because I feel we all are equal, support each other, and grow together. Professionally, I strongly follow a few ethics, and I never cross that line at any cost.
Do you believe in work-life balance?
Susmita – I try to maintain a work-life balance and I believe everyone should maintain work-life balance for mental as well as physical being; however, it’s difficult for me. I go for walk for at least 30 minutes daily. Now my co-authors and friends have encouraged me to start Vlogging for at least 15 minutes on my daily life to rejuvenate, and I also felt that it could perhaps help me refresh my mind. (She laughs her heart out)
Do you have any plan of expansion with your current venture?
Susmita – Yes, Ed Innova is a content writing agency, and we are expanding our wings into other concerns as well very soon. Planning is going on, and we all can just hope for the best.
So when do you plan to launch your 4th book?
Susmita – My 4th novel was scheduled for launch on June 2021, but I had to put that on hold due to the second lockdown in the country. Now I am planning to get it launched by December 2021 or January 2022 if everything goes well.
