The historical epic RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has been voted one of the year’s top 10 movies by the National Board of Review, giving it a significant boost in its Oscar chances. The annual NBR awards are regarded as a reliable indicator of Oscar’s success.
Ram Charan and Jr. NTR’s RRR, which debuted on streaming earlier this year, quickly gained cult status in the West. Despite being a huge box office hit in India, the movie wasn’t chosen as the nation’s official submission for the Academy Awards. However, RRR has become somewhat of the front-runner in recent months due to a focused campaign with Rajamouli as its face.
All but three of the films that topped the NBR’s yearly top 10 lists fell short of receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. The organisation has named Joseph Kosinski’s action sequel Top Gun: Maverick the most excellent movie of the year.
RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has won two international accolades: the Spotlight Award from the Hollywood Critics Association this year and Best International Picture at the 2022 Atlanta Film Critics Circle Awards. In addition, Rajamouli received the Best Director honour from the New York Film Critics Circle.
On March 12, the 95th Academy Awards will be presented. On January 24, the nominees will be made public.
